Light Bulb Give-Away
Winter 2008-2009
The Kansas Crossroads Resource Conservation and Development Area has launched an energy program that also supports the local food banks serving Clay, Cloud, Jewell, Ottawa, Republic and Washington Counties.
“This program is designed to provide information on energy saving compact fluorescent light bulbs, promote energy conservation, and to provide support to the food banks in the communities,” said John Forshee, president of the Kansas Crossroads RC&D.
The RC&D has purchased 600 20-watt compact fluorescent bulbs that provide the equivalent light of a 75W standard incandescent bulb while providing up to a 73% energy savings and up to thirteen times the average life. The RC&D has also purchased 600 Green Deeds energy wheels that provide educational information on home energy use and a variety of easy-to-implement household energy conservation tips.
Residents of the six counties who are eligible and utilize the local food banks may each receive a free light bulb and energy wheel. Individuals may also receive a free light bulb and energy wheel by bringing in a donation of cash or non-perishable grocery or soft-good valued at $10 or more. Limit one light bulb per family.
Participating locations include:
Clay County – Lighthouse for Christ, 413 Lincoln, Clay Center
